Learned something new yesterday. We have a customer with 2 N&W J's that was trying to make a lashup using Legacy. One engine, I think the 601 would take the programing while the other, 611, or vice a versa, would not.
After exhausting every option I'm aware of over the phone he called Lionel service. They immediately knew what the problem was: There is a generation of steam engines that the receiver boards are not programed for lashups. To be able to lashup these engines the board needs to be replaced. Checking the Lionel site's parts lists the new board part number is used as the replacement part.
If you're trying to lashup a steam loco, or maybe even a diesel, and it doesn't work it may be the engine not your method.
