Since we were talking about home made track cleaning cars, the OGR forum has a thread on this designed by a member that goes by the name Dennis.

Here is the link:

The cleaning pad could be a scotch brite, the drywall smoother, a doctor shoals pad like what was used by the scale layout in Alabama we visited...but the concept is the same for a dry cleaning car.

Paul, thanks for the link to the site. I will build a track cleaning car based on the other cars on the site and the car we saw in Alabama on the Club trip.

Ted,

Here's a wild thought...if the home built cars do work satisfactory in a few passes which I believe it will...What if down the road, we put that "technology" into a polar express coach, a hogwarts coach, and one of the gondolas in the penn flyer set so that it would constantly clean the track with normal operation.

If you remember, in Alabama, he had a cleaning car in every train. Assuming the cars are doing a light cleaning versus a heavy scrub, it would not have to be a heavy drag, but several perpetual light drags. This way the track will always be clean with customer operation, and all we have to do is check and change pads every now and again.

I realize the first step is to build one that just works and gets the job done, but down the road, it would great to have a lighter version in the consist of the hobbytown trains that are always working.

Anyway, just a thought.

Paul,

I went out and bought all materials to build one of these at HD yesterday. After Father's Day activities I am going to try to put a "Raccoon Creek Maintenance Car" together.
