My finished retaining wall

I scratch-built it with the cheap balsa wood from HT.

I can't really tell from the photo, but what I've done in similar applications is to scribe little black lines into the balsa and then it looks like individual boards in the wall. If you scribe the lines with a black ball point pen, you kill 2 birds with one stone. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about from my old layout...
