Here's something I'm sure most of you guys already know but will act dumb and post it anyway.

In my layout (diagram below), the very outside loop (ORANGE) has 072 minimum curves to accomodate the standard gauge GG-1 loco, which won't even cross an 060 switch without derailing.

The problem with the design is that I wanted a siding (YELLOW) for the two trains which run on this loop, soz one would run at a time. This would require a semicircle curve on the left side of the diagram to be of a diameter LESS than 072 in order to fit inside (in order to make the layout as compact as possible).

I found that if you alternate a full 072 curve with 1/4 048 curves, i.e., 072-048 1/4-072-048 1/4...., the GG-1 requiring 072 can take that curve without derailing, and by doing so, it will fit INSIDE the 072 curve....

oh, thats nice to know. How to strech out the 72 with the 1/4 -48.. great idea.
