I know that some of you have your summer vacation plans made, but if not here are a couple of recommendations. Many of you know about this, but the Train Festival in Owosso, Michigan July 23-26 will have 8 working steam engines, including the SP Daylight. Here is the web site for more info: http://www.trainfestival2009.com/
If you happen to be in Minneapolis, Minnesota, stop in at the Amtrak train depot. On display are several retired cars from different lines including Milwaukee Road's observation car, the Hiawatha.

If you are in the Cincinnati area, stop to see the old Union Terminal Building. It now houses the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History which is a great place to visit. There is a grand train layout depicting the Cincinnati area prior to World War II. You can also go up into the old control tower and look out into the still working yard. All in all it is a great trip.

Max, that model of the Union Terminal is part of the train layout on display. They also have a model of old Crosley Field, former home of the Cincinnati Reds (Redlegs or Red Stockings, as they once were called). Crosley Field was the first professional stadium that had lights for night games. Needless to say, as a tyke, I attended my first baseball games there. In the model at the museum, day changes into night and the stadium lights go on for a night game. Cincinnati also had several inclines back then to carry people up the hills of Cincy. Those are also modeled at the museum layout.
